Temporary Closure of Inpatient Beds at Patrick Stead Hospital – November 2014

East Coast Community Healthcare (ECCH) has announced that due to staff shortages the Patrick Stead Hospital inpatient beds will close temporarily from 2nd November 2014 to 3rd March 2015.

The hospital will remain open for all the outpatient services and for day cases –such as for blood transfusion and infusions of medication. Patients from Beccles and Southwold who require day case treatment will be offered it at Patrick Stead Hospital but patients from around Halesworth who require a community inpatient bed will instead be offered Beccles or Southwold Hospital.

The situation has arisen mostly due to a combination of staff illness and retirement with other nurses leaving for new posts.

ECCH are starting another recruitment drive in order to regain a full complement of nurses and are determined to re open the inpatient beds in March 2015.

Halesworth Health, Cutlers Hill Surgery and the Patrick Stead Hospital League of Friends, who are all very supportive of the Patrick Stead Community Hospital, are in close contact with ECCH and the Great Yarmouth and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group and monitoring the situation closely to ensure that patient care is as good as possible under these interim arrangements.
