April 2015 update

We are really pleased to see the inpatient beds re-opened, with beds being fully utilised once again.

Four of our members were invited to join patients for lunch last month for hydration & nutrition week.  Thank you very much to all the staff for looking after us so well, and for a delicious lunch! It was good to see the armchairs we purchased for the wards late last year put to good use.  Our picture shows trustees John Lewis, Judith Mesquita and Rosemary Smith-Howell with a patient enjoying one of the new chairs.

League members were delighted to agree to donate a total of £20,000 to Halesworth Carers’ Fund, over two years, following an informative presentation from Nikki Sawkins and Tessa Harding at our AGM.  We have presented Paddy Cox, Chairman with a cheque of £9,500 for the first year, which will support the work of the Carers’ Fund and the Dementia Support Project.  Together, with a grant from the Henry Smith Charity, this enables them to continue the valuable support of the Alzheimer’s Society for two days a week for the next two years.  We are very much looking forward to working closely together in the future.

Please join us on Sunday 5th April at Rydal Mount, Grays Lane, Wissett for our Easter event – Daffodil Easter Sunday, from 12.00 – 16.30.  It is £5 per person; children are free, with homemade refreshments included.  Come along and enjoy the beautiful gardens and daffodils at Rydal Mount, there will also be an Easter Raffle, Tombola and Plant Sale.  All proceeds will be going to the League of Friends.  If anyone has time on their hands to produce some baking it would be much appreciated and can be delivered to 48 Dukes Drive beforehand or brought along on the day.

Our Summer Fete is rapidly approaching, and is being held on Saturday 30th May from 13.00 – 16.30 in the hospital grounds.  Back by popular demand to open proceedings is Radio Suffolk star Charlie Haylock.  Thanks to Spectra Packaging who are once again sponsoring our first draw prize of £250.00. If anyone has any ideas and is interested in running a stall for us, or would like to run their own stall at a cost of £10 for the afternoon please call  (01986) 872804.
