Fete Update and CCG Consultation – July 2015

Thank you so much to everyone that came along and supported our Annual Summer Fete on Saturday 30th May. Once again we were incredibly lucky with the weather, and even with competition from the FA Cup final, the turnout was fantastic! Altogether we raised a grand total of £3,629.21! The afternoon began at 1pm with Radio Suffolk star Charlie Haylock opening the fete with a poem written by local resident, Elizabeth Davey. Charlie stayed and chatted to visitors, signed autographs and concluded the afternoon by officiating the Grand Draw. Our first prize of £250 sponsored by Spectra Packaging was won by Dr Bill Pagan, who has kindly gifted this back to charity. Our compere for the afternoon was Dudley Clarke, who did a wonderful job of keeping people informed of proceedings, we were delighted to welcome Dudley back to join us for a third year. Visitors were entertained by excellent performances from the Budding Arts Dance Group and the Halesworth Shotokan Karate Group – a big thank you to all the youngsters involved and to Helen and James for organising this. There were various stalls and attractions for people to browse, as well as an array of refreshments on offer– cakes, ice-cream, sweets and Bar-B-Q. The children were entertained in ‘Kiddies Corner’ with lots of games and balloon modelling and magic by Neil Reeve. The whole event is a massive team effort and there are so many people to thank, I do hope I don’t forget anyone! Thanks go to LoF members who so kindly donate hours of their time in the run up to the fete, and on fete day itself. Thanks to all stallholders who ran stalls on our behalf. Thanks to Mark Bryant, Suffolk Constabulary and Gavin Plant for attending with a police vehicle. Thanks to Cleveley’s Meats for donating the meat for the Bar-B-Q and to Halesworth Business Connections. Thank you to all the local businesses that donated prizes to the draw: Spectra Packaging, Allens Cadge & Gilbert Solicitors, Blyth Road Garage, Ridgeon’s, Halesworth Golf Club, Seashell Fish & Chips, The Angel, Tilly’s, Allen’s Butchers, Bramfield Meats, Reshape, Melons, LibbyMaes, Halesworth Stationers, HRG Shoe Repairs, Cutlers Hill Pharmacy, Remnants, Halesworth Book Shop, Rodney Fox Cards & Gifts, Ann Green Second Hand Books and Patricks Newsagents. Also, thanks to the businesses that supported us with selling draw tickets and to Maureen Took and Tony Wollin for outstanding ticket sales! Thanks to everyone that donated prizes and baked. Finally, thank you to everyone that came along on the day to support us, and helped create the friendly atmosphere that made the afternoon. Please like our Facebook page to see more fete photos.
Taking the shine off this incredible achievement somewhat was the release of the Great Yarmouth & Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group Consultation Document – The Shape of the System. The document proposes that the Patrick Stead Hospital would be closed in April 2016, with the new Castlemeadow Care facility not up and running until 2017 at the earliest. On a more positive note, at the Public Meeting organised by Therese Coffey at the Rifle Hall, Andy Evans – Chief Executive of the CCG did confirm that Patrick Stead would remain open until such time as the new facility was up and running. The full CCG consultation document is available on-line and can be obtained from the surgery or the library. The consultation period runs until 2nd September. The official Public Meeting for Halesworth is on Tuesday 7th July from 7.00pm – 9.00 at The Cut, please show your support and attend this meeting to express your views and concerns.
