May 2016 Update – ‘Daffodils’

9 (2)A big thank you to Alan & Kath Witherby for opening up their beautiful gardens for our ‘Daffodils’ event on Sunday 10th April.  Conditions this year were perfect, the sun shone for most of the afternoon and we had daffodils in abundance.  Lots of visitors joined us and enjoyed wandering around the impressive gardens and sampling the delicious homemade refreshments on offer.  Altogether we raised a grand total of £737.42!  Thank you to everyone that came along and supported us and to everyone that helped, donated and baked.  Also, thank you to Lucietta Elder who very kindly donated an amazing pink celebration cake, which was raffled off.  The lucky winner was Paddy Cox, who took it along to Rayner Green for the users and staff to enjoy.

We are now looking forward to our Annual Summer Fete, which is on Saturday 4th June from 1pm in the grounds of the hospital.  There will be all the usual stalls, attractions and entertainment as well as the kiddies’ corner, bar-b-q, parravani and refreshments.  Thanks to Spectra Packaging who have once again sponsored our Grand Draw first prize of £250.  Tickets will be available on the day, but if you are unable to make it and would like to support us by buying tickets there will be various opportunities.  We will be at the Co-op on Saturday 7th May from 8.00am – 4.00pm, at the Wednesday Market on 4th & 18th May from 8.00am and in the Thoroughfare outside Durrants on Saturday 28th May from 8.30am (both weather permitting).  We do still have a few pitches available, at a cost of £10 for the afternoon.  If you are interested please call (01986) 872804.  If anyone would like to join us, but requires transport, please call (01379) 588418.

At our trustees meeting on 27th April we were pleased to agree to the purchase of two dermoscopes for the surgery, which will be used by our GP’s to assess both pigmented moles and sun damaged skin.  Having this technology available in Halesworth will result in patients being treated locally, avoiding referral to district hospitals for minor skin lesions.

We were very sorry to learn of the death of Helen Samain at the age of 95.  Helen was a member of the League of Friends for over 20 years, from 1993 onwards, after moving to Halesworth with her husband Bryan.  Our thoughts are with Bryan and his family at this sad time.

Our next full members meeting is on Wednesday 25th May at 7.30pm in the Garden Room.  New members very welcome.
