Innovation and Teamwork

Cutlers Hill Surgery is a highly respected practice, recognised by its status as a training practice for GP registrars and as a teaching practice for medical students.

It  has a reputation for innovation. The eight doctors at Cutlers Hill have sometimes pioneered and funded services, either directly or with support from Halesworth residents.

Several doctors in the Cutlers Hill practice have specialist interests and skills.

All share a belief that medicine has to be practised with care and compassion and that good communication and a holistic approach are vital.

The doctors,  practice and community nurses and their colleagues emphasise that they achieve high quality, responsive care because they recognise and value the role of everyone in the team.

There is choice and quality with care at and close to home, particularly for elderly people.

A Model for Healthcare

The Primary Health Care Team – doctors, practice nurses, nurse practitioners, district and community nurses, health visitors and midwives – all work from the surgery, co-ordinating care in a way that is a model for health care delivery. The team offers comprehensive health care, including:

  • Enabling people to choose a healthy lifestyle – preventing illness
  • Health screening
  • Birth control advice and services
  • Antenatal care
  • Baby and toddler clinics
  • Mental health support (through a link worker)
  • Minor surgical procedures
  • Managing acute illness
  • Monitoring and helping people with chronic diseases.

The doctors are responsible, on a daily basis, for the medical care of patients in Patrick Stead Hospital, which is adjacent to the surgery. They care for patients in two residential homes in Halesworth: Beech House (with a specialist elderly mentally infirm unit) and Highfields; Priory Paddocks Nursing Home at Darsham; and four sheltered accommodation units. They also provide medical cover for the minor injuries unit which operates at the surgery and work as part of the Out of Hours service.

The practice offers a dispensing service and there is an independent pharmacy attached to the surgery.

The GPs are closely involved with the development of Halesworth Health – safeguarding and developing healthcare in and around Halesworth.
