May 2013 News

Firstly, sincere thanks for all the donations received this month. These include donations in memory of N Mawby, C Foster, B Smith, E Staples, R McMillan and W Hammond; a donation in memory of D Hailston for Rayner Green Resource Centre; donations from M Woods and P Woods and a donation from A Willimot for the fete.

Michael Reidy of Rayner Green Resource Centre joined us at our March full members meeting, and gave an interesting and informative talk about the Centre and the excellent care that is provided there. The League agreed to the purchase of 2 Brecon Rise and Recline Arm Chairs for service users at the Rayner Green Resource Centre. These will be more comfortable for users, and are helpful to those with specific health requirements. Also during the meeting Mrs Phyllis Peck and Mrs Muriel Barber were congratulated on their long service achievement. Their names have been included on our long service board, and on behalf of everyone Dr Bill Pagan presented them both with a bouquet of flowers and thanked them for all the years of dedicated hard work they have given for the benefit of the local community. Both Phyllis and Muriel have been involved with different aspects within the League and have witnessed many changes in the NHS over their years of service.

The League of Friends has made a donation to Cutlers Hill Surgery to assist with the initial set up of the Minor Injuries Service at the surgery. This service is a valuable asset to Halesworth and we are delighted to be able to support its continuation. Minor Injuries is now open at Cutlers Hill Surgery from Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 6.00pm, not including bank holidays.

Thank you to everyone that supported our Daffodil Day once again this year. Special thanks go to Alan and Kath Witherby for their hospitality, and for inviting us to join them for the afternoon at Rydal Mount, Wissett. It was an exceptionally cold Easter Sunday, with the odd outbreak of snow and unfortunately not many daffodils to be seen!  However, it wasn’t enough to put anyone off and visitors were able to warm up with a cup of tea and homemade refreshments in the conservatory. All together we made a grand total of £545.59. Thanks to Ridgeon’s for their kind donation of £200. This gave our takings a welcomed boost.

It doesn’t seem possible but only 4 weeks to go until our Annual Summer Fete. Please come along and support us on Saturday 1st June from 1.00pm – 4.30pm in the grounds of the hospital. Peter Purves will hopefully by officially opening the fete at 1.00pm, and there will be lots of entertainment packed into the afternoon, along with the usual stalls, attractions, BBQ and refreshments in the Garden Room. If anybody in the Halesworth area would like to join us but requires transport, please telephone (01379) 588418. If there is anybody that would be willing to run a stall on our behalf, or would like to book a table for a trade stall please telephone (01986) 872804. For a chance to purchase raffle tickets we will be outside the Co-op on Saturday 18th May, somebody has to be the lucky winner of our first prize of £250, kindly sponsored by Spectra Packaging, with many more fantastic prizes to be won. Any donations of baking would be much appreciated.
