Daffodils – May 2014

Firstly, thanks to Alan & Kath Witherby for hosting our Easter event ‘Daffodils’ at Rydal Mount, Wissett on Easter Sunday.  Once again, it was an enjoyable and successful afternoon and altogether a grand total of £495.60 was raised.  Despite most of the daffodils being over, visitors still enjoyed wandering around the beautiful gardens at Rydal Mount, and welcomed homemade refreshments in the conservatory, and there were no snow showers this year to hamper proceedings!  A big thank you to everyone involved with organising, baking, donating prizes, helping on the day and of course to everyone that supported us.  Thank you to the Co-operative food store in Halesworth for donating an Easter egg, which was won by Norman Hatcher.  The lucky winner of the Easter Hamper was Dudley Clarke.

We have received a donation from Mrs J Lea, and a donation in memory of Violet Hammond, grateful thanks for these.

The countdown has begun to our Annual Summer Fete, which is on Saturday 31st May in the hospital grounds. The fun starts at 1.00pm and runs through until 4.30pm.  We are pleased to welcome Charlie Haylock this year, who is going to start proceedings at 1.00pm.  Charlie is one of Suffolk’s leading entertainers and has a regular spot on Radio Suffolk with Lesley Dolphin, currently exploring the lost words of Suffolk. We have entertainment throughout the afternoon including the Budding Arts Dance Group and the Halesworth Shotokan Karate Group.  There will be various stalls and attractions, refreshments in the Garden Room, Bar-B-Q, Punch & Judy, Kiddies Corner, Face Painting, Parravani and much more.  Kindly returning again this year to compere the afternoon is Dudley Clarke.  If anyone would like to run a stall on our behalf, or book a table for themselves at a cost of £10, please call (01986) 872804.  If anyone requires transport please call (01379) 588418.  We will be outside the Co-operative food store selling draw tickets on Saturday 10th May, and look out for us at the Wednesday markets during May.  Spectra Packaging are kindly sponsoring our first prize of £250, with many more prizes and cash prizes to be won.

We have been invited by Halesworth Volunteer Centre to join them at the pop up shop from 15th May.  Come along to find out more about the League of Friends and how you can become involved, as well as learning more about other volunteering opportunities locally, and other local groups and organisations.
