Successful Summer Fete 2016

A big thank you to everyone that came along and supported our Annual Summer Fete on Saturday 4th June. Considering the difficult year it has been for the League of Friends, support from the community has been absolutely fantastic, as always. Altogether, so far, we have raised a grand total of £3,471.81, with some donations still trickling in over the past couple of weeks. Once again the weather was on our side and the sun shone for us all afternoon. Local MP, Peter Aldous, officially opened proceedings for us at 1pm. Peter stayed for the afternoon, wandering around the stalls and chatting to visitors. Our compere for the afternoon was Andrew Payne, who did a wonderful job of keeping everyone informed of proceedings. Visitors were treated to some excellent entertainment, with performances from Voice Cloud (Bungay Community Choir), Halesworth Shotokan Karate Group, Rumburgh Morris Dancers and a Celtic Folk Music Group – thanks to you all for performing and in such heat! Thanks to the fire brigade for joining us with the fire engine, and to Caroline Riley who performed puppet shows in the kiddie’s corner. Thank you very much to the local groups that ran stalls on our behalf and to everyone that ran stalls of their own. As well as raising a considerable sum of money, fete day was also a wonderful socialising and networking opportunity and a chance for other local organisations to promote themselves. It was a most enjoyable and successful afternoon, and it has been a pleasure to hear people commenting on how much they enjoyed themselves. There are such a lot of people involved in making the fete such a success, and we have several people to thank: Thank you to Spectra Packaging, who once again, sponsored the first prize of £250 in the draw, this was won by Alan Witherby. Thank you to Cleveleys meats, who donated all the meat for the Bar-B-Q and to the local and regional Co-operative Store who between them donated all of the rolls for the Bar-B-Q. Our thanks go to all the local businesses that donated prizes for the draw: Spectra Packaging, Allen’s Cadge & Gilbert solicitors, Blyth Road Garage, Ridgeons Limited, Halesworth Golf Club, Seashell, Allens Butchers, Bramfield Meats, Heads & Curls, Toby’s Pet Shop, Reshape, Coopers, The Wine Shop, Halesworth Stationers, HRG, Boots, Remnants, Halesworth Book Shop, Rodney Fox, Just Nice Things, Patricks Newsagents, Focus Organic and Men’s Shed. Thanks to Ron at Goodies for including flyers in the papers and to Halesworth Business Connections. Also, thanks to the local businesses, members and friends that supported us with selling draw tickets, with a special mention to Maureen Took, Tony and Maureen Wollin and Julia Francis at Spectra who once again all excelled in ticket sales! Finally, thank you to members and volunteers that helped to set up or dismantle, ran stalls, baked, donated or contributed in any way. Please like our Facebook page for more fete pictures.
